On art.
No work of art better depicts the beauty of learning as the never-ending derivative between man and the heavens as that of The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo. Completed in 1511, this monumental section of the Sistine Chapel ceiling depicts the Biblical story from the Book of Genesis where God the Father breathes life into Adam.
As our efforts to achieve the heavens will never be actualized, we must marvel at the beauty of human progress and our attempts to reach new heights. The beauty behind this imperfection is that there will always be someone that is better skilled and therefore has something to teach. There will always be a more absolute truth, a more precise approximation. Like the powerful irrational number that will ramble on forever unpredictably and soar into the heavens, the pursuit of beauty is a rich challenge that indulges on the meaning of life.
Michaelangelo’s ceiling has inspired me as I will always seek self-improvement. I have never been fully satisfied with my work because I aim to constantly extend it. There will always be other lives that I will try to impact, other nations that I will try to connect with, and greater heights to achieve.
